22 March

I don't usually blog when something awful happens because who needs my entirely irrelevant two cents, but I had to say a heartfelt thank you, at least, for your many many emails and comments of concern which were truly appreciated. There has been a lot of kindness. People are so kind, especially at times like this, but actually, always. Everyone here and hereabouts is fine and safe, but oh, my poor, lovely, funny, weird city.

It was such a pretty day too, blossom and pale sunshine and there's a big bright moon tonight. I'm going to try and turn off the rolling news, pour a big gin and get into the bath. Hope you and yours are all safe and well.

I was glad when I saw you were all safe. But sad for you all, sad that you're now part of this shitty, shitty club.

I admit I was checking to make sure you and yours were okay. Have a lovely bath (and gin).

I am relieved to hear that you and those around you are safe. I pray we will find a way to end this madness.

Longtime lurker, and I immediately thought of you all. Glad you are safe. I went to see Postmodern Jukebox tonight in London & they dedicated the show to Brussels tonight.

Glad that you're safe. Kindness does seem like a good way forward. And the gin and a bath sound like an excellent idea too.

...so happy to read that you and yours are well.
Even if it's basically a virtual connection, it does make this kind of crisis immediately so much more personal.
Hope the gin and bath did you good.
Hope that spring will not be stopped...

Good news that you are ok. Yes, poor Brussels.

Thanks be you and yours are all well and accounted for. Thanks for the flowers--they showed up first as I signed on with their message "they're all okay." When the gin bottle materialized, we knew for sure you were dealing with the horror. Tanqueray, too. Still don't know what happened, but will read about it all soon's the sun comes up and I can go for a paper. Hugs!! M.e. (XtremeEnglish)

Glad you are all safe but so, so sorry for lovely Brussels

You are quite right to limit your news exposure. I read a bit of De Standaard's coverage but that was quite enough. I am thinking of you.

Dear Waffle,
Much love to you and your little Waffles on these hard days. Having visited the city on a couple of occasions and warmed to it instantly, no doubt helped by your accounts of its many foibles and quirks, I was really shocked yesterday. It's so eerie to see a place you've been be affected by senseless irrational violence and I know from past experience how it feels when terror strikes the heart of a city we consider to be our own.
We must never let them take that away. Brussels belongs to you and all the good people that go about their daily lives in peace there. It does not and cannot belong to those that would dare lay a finger on others for their own dirty, misguided goals. It was heartening to see the people on the Grand Place yesterday writing on the ground and making their presence felt despite the fear. I loved your daffodils and gin as well.

Is it inappropriate to say I'm so glad you're still here?
